Spiral Staircases come in many different sizes and styles. How do you know which
will best fit your needs? There are several things to consider.
Style
The most popular Spiral Stairs are made of steel. Wood treads & landings, and aluminum handrails are offered as an option.
These are your best values, and we have a full line of the most common sizes available for purchase here on SpiralStairWarehouse.com.
Spiral Stairs are also available in Oak and Victorian styles, but these styles --
while beautiful -- tend to be more costly. We currently don’t offer Oak and Victorian
styles in our web store. However, if you are interested in learning more about Oak,
Victorian, or other Custom Spiral Staircases, we suggest you click here.
Location
Will your Spiral Staircase be indoors, or will it be located outdoors as a means
of access to a deck or balcony? If outdoors, you can’t have optional wood treads
because they would eventually deteriorate due to rain, snow, or other moist air
conditions such as living near the seashore. Instead, consider adding optional galvanized
treads. Galvanizing protects your staircase from the elements.
Size
Whether your Spiral Staircase is indoors or outdoors, consider how it will be used
before you determine the proper diameter of the model you want to buy. Spiral Stair
Warehouse offers Spiral Stairs in diameters (widths) ranging from 3-foot 6-inches
up to 5-foot 6-inches. These are the most common widths in use today. While our
3-foot 6-inch, 4-foot, and 4-foot 6-inch diameter Spiral Stair Kits are very popular
for a variety of uses, consider whether they are the only means of access to an
upper floor or balcony. Narrower-width Spiral Staircases can be more challenging
when carrying large or otherwise bulky items between floors. And if you have small
children or pets that will use the staircase frequently, a wider-width staircase
(such as our 5-foot model) may be more desirable.
Regardless of whichever diameter Spiral Stair model you choose, remember that the
well opening you must cut in your ceiling (if not installing to a balcony) must
be at least 2 inches wider than the diameter of the staircase you purchase.
If your Spiral Stairs must conform to common building codes, you must select our
5-foot diameter or 5-foot 6-inch diameter models. Diameters that are less than 5-foot
are not code conforming. Our 5-foot and 5-foot 6-inch staircases come equipped with
Triple-in-Between Spindles and a 1 ¼" Aluminum Coil Handrail as standard
accessories. Triple-in-Between Spindles conform to code that require less than 4
inches between spindles on each step. The 1 ¼" Aluminum Handrail provides
superior stability. Check with your local municipality to find out if building codes
are applicable in your area.

All of our Spiral Staircase models are available in heights from 7-foot 2-inches
(our 10 Riser model) up to 12-foot 8-inches (our 16 riser model). The number of
risers (steps) depends upon the height of the staircase, and is automatically calculated
for you in our online store. Call us at

out of this range.

Accessories
We offer a limited line of the most popular add-on items to accessorize your Spiral
Staircase in our online store. Oak Treads and Landing with an Oak Top Cap can provide
added beauty and elegance to your staircase. If you prefer standard metal treads,
consider our Diamond Plate option for better traction while climbing or descending
steps. Single, Double, or Triple In-Between Spindles on each step add beauty and
can improve stability and cut down on the space where children or small objects
can "squeeze through the cracks". Aluminum Scroll Ends for your handrail and Riser
Bars under each step make your staircase even more attractive.
Installation
Installing your Spiral Staircase is relatively easy, especially if you are experienced
in home remodeling or are a handy do-it-yourselfer. Standard tools are required.
All kits purchased from the Spiral Stair Warehouse come with detailed, easy-to-understand
instructions. There is also helpful information about parts here and a visual assembly tutorial here. If you find installation too daunting,
we recommend hiring a local contractor to install your staircase.
